Gene`s BMX News ( Commentary Quote ) -- 05/12/2009 Back on Janaury 21st, 2009 the ABA BMX and NBC Universal Sports announced an exclusive four year agreement to televise ABA bmx events and the 2009 UCI Continental events. On May 12th, 2009 the ABA BMX announced the TV airdates and times. I guess that is a cool thing, or is it? In most towns in the USA the NBC Universal sports TV channel is an add on paid TV channel to most TV line ups. So unless the everyday family has the extra money to add the NBC Universal Sports TV channel on to there day to day TV line up in there homes, this will only target a small audience. Money is tight in most homes across America today and to add a new TV channel to the TV cable bill that is already to high is asking a lot of people. Most people today do not have the extra money to add on this TV channel. I could see if NBC Universal was to air the BMX racing events via on its basic NBC TV channels across America so everyone in the general public out side of the BMX community would see the BMX racing events, that there may be lots of gain on new BMX racers for the sport of BMX racing. But on a TV channel with a small audience? The gain may be lack. So I wonder just how does this ABA BMX and NBC Universal Sports TV channel deal help gain any new or more BMX racers for the ABA BMX? Yes, as a BMX racer it is always cool to see your self or friends in the press. But as a BMX racer, most already know what BMX racing is and how fun it can be. So just where is there any gain of new BMX racers to be by showing BMX racing events on a TV channel that is not in most homes across America. The sport of BMX racing could see a big gain in new BMX racers if the NBC Universal and the ABA BMX would make some kind of a deal by airing the BMX races on the world wide web. NBC Universal owns one of the biggest and hottest movie and TV show internet web sites today, its called Hulu.com The web site does attract young and old - youth, teens and adults. It has a big audience. Showing the BMX racing events on the web, it could attract lots more interest for the sport of BMX racing. Watching TV and movies on the web is a hot thing right now with most people that surf the web. So why not offer people some BMX racing aswell. The audience could be big with a gain of new BMXers. This could also offer people the opportunity to not have to jump hoops to add a new TV channel to the TV cable bill and showing BMX racing in most homes, public librarys, schools, and work places across America. The gain could be big. ***** Gene`s BMX ***** All Things Northwest in BMX! http://www.genesbmx.com |
